Child Care in Yellowknife

Have questions about childcare in Yellowknife?

Before school care programs are essentially non-existent with the exception of the Montessori Casa program, which is only available to their registered students.

Most day cares and some day home providers offer before-school care.

After school care, which is mostly provided by the YWCA, is also difficult to secure as space has become very limited due to staff shortages. Registration occurs prior to receiving your posting message, with priority given to families previously registered into the program. Wait lists are kept on a school-year basis, with spots becoming available as staff is secured.

After school care programs are also offered at local day cares and some day homes.

For families with children with exceptionalities, there is support to licensed child care programs (child care centres and day home agencies) that promote the inclusion of children with special needs. For more information contact us.

Have questions about childcare in Yellowknife?

Unfortunately, child care has become extremely difficult to secure with waiting lists several months long. It is most difficult to secure child care for children under two years of age. Be patient and persistent and know that it will take time.
The YWCA offers an after school program within the majority of the Yellowknife schools. These programs fill up very quickly therefore securing a spot as soon as possible is strongly recommended.
The Yellowknife Catholic School Board also offers a few after-school programs.
