Cross-Country Skiing Program for CAF members

Want to learn or improve your cross-country skiing skills this winter? Join our 8-week program designed for CAF members!

Schedule & Location

  • Start Date: January (depending on snow conditions and trail openings)
  • Location: NDHQ Carling area (meeting points will vary slightly depending on the lesson, but will remain within a 2–3 km radius) 
  • Schedule: Every Friday. Classic: 12:30 to 14:00, Skate: 14:15 PM to 15:45
  • Equipment: BYOE – Bring Your Own Equipment (unless otherwise specified). It’s recommended to gear up early while inventory is still available!

Lesson Content

  • Scientific principles of cross-country skiing
  • Clipping in/out and getting back up
  •  Movement techniques: diagonal stride, gliding, weight transfer (2 weeks)
  • Pole usage: diagonal stride, double poling
  • Climbing hills
  • Descending and turning
  • Braking
  • ·Entering/exiting tracks while in motion
  • Advanced techniques and gaining speed (yes, there will be a friendly race!)
  • Introduction to basic skate skiing techniques
