Beat the Base Triathlon
Beat-the-Base Triathlon III: Die Triing – 9 May 2026
Canadian Forces Base Edmonton will be hosting the 3rd Annual Beat-the-Base Triathlon on 9 May 2026 with all proceeds being donated to the Soldier-on Program, a not-for-profit organization that supports serving and retired military members to overcome mental health and physical illness or injury through sport and physical activity. The Beat-the-Base Triathlon will be a closed course and open to military, veterans, and civilians over the age of 8. This event is meant to promote fitness and provide an opportunity for all experience levels to participate. As an early season triathlon, the weather can be a bit unpredictable with heat, cold, or somehow a combination of both with rain and/or snow so be prepared for the weather.
There will be 3 races, the traditional Sprint distance, a Super-Sprint (alternatively called Try-a-Tri), and a Sprint Relay. The Sprint relay is a race that enables 3 individuals as a team complete the sprint triathlon, each member completing one of the events in a tag relay fashion.
Swim – (Sprint – 800 yards / Super-Sprint – 400 yards)
The swim leg will be held in the base pool (25 yards). Racers will exit the emergency pool exit and transition in the tennis courts.
Bike – (Sprint – 20.5 km / Super-Sprint – 11.8 km)
The on-base cycle will initially be focused on the (retired) runway, which at one time was built to accommodate B-52 bombers during the Second World War and later designated as an emergency space shuttle landing site by NASA. The cycle phase will then pass in front of the various units housed on the base who will all see deployments on various missions abroad over the next year.
Run – (Sprint – 4.9 km / Super-Sprint – 2.5 km)
The run will then move onto the trail system north of the pool. This year the finishing shoot will be re-designed to bring it closer to transition, making a closer and more supportive environment.
Mementos & Awards
All Participants will receive a race completion dog tag, a race branded swim cap, a race branded long sleeve shirt, a light meal and a free drink (beer or pop) from Talking Dog Brewing. Anyone who can be under 1:25:00 for males or 1:30:00 for females will be awarded a “I Beat The Base” mementos. Two additional time-accomplishment tiers are being developed and will be released before the race, to give you goals in your off-season training.
