You should apply for EI benefits as soon as you stop working. Delaying your application by more than four weeks after your last day of work may result in a loss of benefits. 

As a spouse or dependant of a CAF member, you are eligible to seek work while posted to the U.S. However, it is mandatory to acquire an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
