NWT Health Care offers optometry services through the Stanton Ophthalmology Clinic. The Government of the Northwest Territories covers eyes testing every 2 years.

Stanton Territorial Health Eye Clinic (Gogo Cho Building)

The eye clinic hosts the only ophthalmologist in Yellowknife and falls under NWT Health Care. The ophthalmologist is a medical and surgical physician who can diagnose and treat: cataracts, diabetic related complications, glaucoma, age related issues, strabismus and other eye related issues. A host of specialized tests and procedures can also be conducted in the clinic. 

Note: 
  • Walk-in routine eye examinations are available, on a first come first served basis, every Thursday.
  • Call as far in advance as possible - appointments can sometimes take a while to secure.

Note:
  • There are fees associated for some travel-related immunizations.

  • Due to recent health care staff shortages wait time for services or local service availability may be decreased. Some services are being shifted to Edmonton.

Don’t have a doctor? Need support with medical advice, prescriptions or lab/imaging requisitions? No problem! Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services have partnered up with Maple to provide online doctor visits to military dependents. This program does not offer full medical support but can offer some basic services.

With the click of a button, you can communicate with a Canadian-licensed general practitioner or nurse practitioner. You can access this service by text, phone or video, from your smartphone, tablet or computer. The service is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Yellowknife Primary Care Centre

Includes primary care, lab services, psychological counselling and some home care services. 

 

Same day services are open Mon – Fri from 8:05am to noon and 4:30 – 9pm (phone line is open from 8:05am to 8:25pm) and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm (phone line is open from 8:35am to 4pm). Call (876) 767-9294 early in the morning to book a spot. If there are no available appointments, you may want to request to be on the cancellation list.
